Glen Chapple took five wickets Title-chasing Lancashire kept their nerve to beat Yorkshire in a classic Roses match at Headingley by 23 runs.
Resuming on 136-6, still needing 148 to win, it looked as if Yorkshire would fall well short when Lancashire skipper Glen Chapple struck twice.
Adil Rashid (48 no) and Ajmal Shahzad then put on 43 for the ninth wicket.
But Kyle Hogg had Shahzad caught behind before spinner Gary Keedy trapped first innings centurion Rich Pyrah LBW for 18 as the Tykes were bowled out for 260.
After one of the most thrilling Roses encounters of all time, Lancashire's second of thye summer after both teams received a standing ovation as they left the field.
Lancashire's seventh County Championship win in 10 games this season takes them to within a point of leaders Durham, who have been forced to follow on theitr current game with Somerset at Taunton.
But, despite going down fighting, Yorkshire remain in relegation danger, 17 points ahead of eighth-placed Worcestershire, who have two games in hand.
Set a challenging 284 for victory, Gale and Sidebottom, who had hit a first innings half century, were positive from the start.
The pair had added 28 at well over a run a minute before Sidebottom was caught low down at second slip by Tom Smith off Chapple.
Yorkshire refused to panic as Rashid joined Gale, both batsmen taking boundaries off Keedy but, at 177, the Tykes suffered another serious blow with Chapple's lbw dismissal of Gale for 47.
It gave the Skipton-born paceman only his second five-wicket Roses haul.
Rashid, partnered by Ajmal Shahzad, was in magnificent form, helping a ninth-wicket pair add at least 50 runs together for third successive time in the match.
But, with the stand worth 53, Shahzad was tempted into trying to hook a Hogg bouncer and he gloved a catch to wicketkeeper Gareth Cross.
At 230-9, the last man in was Pyrah, the Tykes' century-making hero of the first innings, yet demoted to number 11 because of the return from the Test squad of Tim Bresnan and Sidebottom having gone in earlier as nightwatchman.
He helped Yorkshire lunch on 244-9, with 40 still required. And that had been whittled down to 24 when Pyrah was lbw on the backfoot to Keedy for 14, leaving Rashid stranded.

"It was a fantastic game of cricket, thoroughly entertaining throughout and great for the County Championship but we only took four points from the match and that is scant consolation.
"It was a great fightback from 45-8 in the first innings but unfortunately it was not quite good enough."
Lancashire skipper Glen Chapple:
"It was an unbelievable game of cricket, which took a different path to most games.
"We really struggled against the Yorkshire tail-enders. I have never seen a tail bat like that before.
"Both Roses matches this season have been amazing games of cricket and I don't think we will see the likes of them again for a long time.
"They could have gone either way but I thought that here we were always favourites despite Yorkshire's batting line-up being the best in the country."

"Lancashire managed to ride the peaks and troughs of this Roses match the best.
"Despite stout resistance from Ajmal Shahzad, Adil Rashid and Andrew Gale, it was the experience of Glen Chapple and Gary Keedy that must take the final day plaudit.
"But rigorous line and length bowling from the entire attack got them into a winning position as Lancashire again proved their detractors wrong."
