(CNN) -- English Premier League side Manchester City claim they have accepted an undisclosed bid from Corithians for Argentina striker Carlos Tevez, but the announcement has been denied by the Brazilian club.
"At the moment, we have an agreement with Corinthians," Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini told reporters during City's tour of America. "But Carlos is still a City player."
But Corinthians denied a deal for the 27-year-old was close to being completed, with the club's president Andres Sanchez claiming City "did not accept Corinthians' proposal for the footballer."
A statement from the Sao Paulo club read: "For the moment there is nothing concrete on Tevez and the counter-proposal will be examined (by Sanchez) and the board.

"It asks for changes in the form of payment and the total value of the transaction. Furthermore, Manchester City insisted that Tevez renounce a sum outstanding with the English club."
Tevez -- who was part of Sergio Batista's Argentina squad which was eliminated from the 2011 Copa America on Saturday -- played for Corinthians between 2004 and 2006 and has been linked with a move away from City since submitting a transfer request in December 2010.

The former Manchester United forward captained City last season, scoring 20 goals in 31 Premier League appearances as Mancini's team reached the European Champions League for the first time in their history and also lifted the FA Cup.
It has been widely speculated in the British media that the Buenos Aires native wants to return to South America in order to be closer to his family.
Tevez arrived in England along with compatriot Javier Mascherano in 2006, when the duo moved from Corinthians to London-based outfit West Ham United.
Manchester United signed Tevez in 2007, and he was part of Alex Ferguson's squad as the Red Devils became champions of Europe for the third time in their history in 2008.
Tevez made a controversial switch across Manchester in 2009 and has since gone on to score 43 goals in 63 appearances for City.
One player who has confirmed a move away from City is Germany's Jerome Boateng, who has joined Bayern Munich.
Boateng, 22, spent just one season in England, having joined the Citizens from Hamburg in June 2010.
The former Hertha Berlin full-back has won 13 caps for Germany and was part of Joachim Low's squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Elsewhere, Arsenal confirmed the signing of Ivory Coast forward Gervinho from French champions Lille on a long-term contract.
Gervinho, 24, also helped Lille capture the French Cup and scored 18 goals in 49 appearances for the club last term.
"It's a great feeling to be an Arsenal player," Gervinho told Arsenal's official web site.
"I'm very happy. I've always dreamed to play for this club. I've achieved this dream now and I am so happy. It's one of the most beautiful days of my life."
Another player on the move was Tevez's fellow Argentina international Ezequiel Garay, who has completed his switch from Real Madrid to Benfica.
Defender Garay was signed by Real from Santander in 2008, but has now made the move to the Portuguese capital Lisbon after failing to secure a first-team spot at the Bernabeu.
