(CNN) -- Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa dominated Friday's free practice session ahead of Sunday's Czech MotoGP at Brno.

Pedrosa, who has won two races this season and currently lies fourth in the world championship standings, was nearly a second faster than team-mate and current championship leader Casey Stoner, with Marco Simoncelli third fastest.

"The feeling was very good today from the beginning," Pedrosa, who clocked a best time of 1:56.328 seconds, told the official MotoGP website.

"I think the main difference I felt is that I'm fresh after the summer break, the rest I had has helped me a lot.

"I can feel the energy I didn't have in the races before the break, so I hope I can keep the pace for Saturday and Sunday and be strong for the race," added Pedrosa.

Despite finishing second on the timesheets, Stoner was disappointed with his performance, saying: "Today hasn't been that positive to be honest.

"We seem to be having a similar start to our weekend in Laguna and aren't sure which direction to take at the moment. The feeling in the front is very vague and our corner entry and mid-turn isn't that great."

Defending world champion Jorge Lorenzo, who is just 20 points behind Stoner after 10 of the 18 races so far this season, was fourth fastest with Andrea Dovizioso -- who is third in the overall standings -- fifth quickest.

Ben Spies, John Hopkins, Alvaro Bautista, Cal Crutchlow and Colin Edwards completed the top 10, with seven-times world champion Valentino Rossi only 11th fastest.
