(CNN) -- Serena Williams secured her second straight title since coming back from long-term injury and illness as she beat Samantha Stosur of Australia 6-4 6-2 in the final of the Rogers Cup in Toronto Sunday.

The former world number one looks to be back to her best heading into the U.S. Open at Flushing Meadows later this month and brushed aside Stosur in convincing fashion.

A run of five games secured Williams the first set and the decisive break in the second and she never looked back, wrapping up victory after one hour 17 minutes with a powerful ace.

Stosur will move back into the world's top 10 with her performances in Canada this week, but falls to 2-9 in WTA career finals.

Williams, who returned to action in June just before Wimbledon, came into the tournament off the back of winning the Bank of the West Classic.

But the manner of her triumph in an event containing the majority of the world's best players will make her favorite for the final grand slam of the season, brushing aside Victoria Azarenka of Belarus to set up her showdown with Stosur.

She now heads to Cincinnati for further preparations and could face Stosur in the second round.

Williams is also projected to rise to 31 in world when the next rankings list comes out, having slipped way outside of the top 100 during her layoff.
