Yorkshire hit by Gale injury blow

Andrew Gale Gale has been Yorkshire captain since 2009

Yorkshire captain Andrew Gale will miss the rest of the season after an X-ray confirmed he had broken his arm.

Gale, 27, used his Twitter account to announce the news, saying: "Broken arm, gutted. These things happen though."

The batsman, who has an average of 40.47 in 12 matches this season, suffered the injury when he was hit during a practice session.

Director of cricket Martyn Moxon told BBC Radio Leeds: "It's a big blow to us and obviously he is very disappointed."

He added: "Losing your captain is not ideal. His leadership qualities will be missed, as will his ability with the bat.

"He's out for the season so it's up to the rest of the players to try and get us the highest placed finish possible.

"We can't dwell on it - we need to be positive and look forward."

The Tykes currently sit second bottom in the County Championship, four points off seventh placed Worcestershire.
